John served as elected president of APENS and served two terms as APENS representative on the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers.He is survived by his sisters Ella Mae (Sylvester) Marsh, Mill Creek & Marie Nunn, Bras d’Or; his brothers Nickie Laffin, Bras d’Or, Bobby Laffin, Millville & Pat (Gennie) Laffin, Point Aconi. John, a native Nova Scotian, was the son of Michael Joseph and Margaret (Mac Dougall) Laffin. Francis Xavier University and graduated from the Technical University of Nova Scotia (TUNS).He was predeceased by his sisters Frances Snow, Irene Steele, Laura Fraser & Mary Genevieve Laffin and his brothers William, Terrance and Danny. Cremation has taken place under the care of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. He had an extensive career in the private and public sectors, in the energy and mining industries.
